Understanding the working of appetite suppressants
Obesity is often called as the storehouse of disease. Arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, sleeplessness and depression are a few common diseases that come handy with obesity in most cases.
Hence, reducing weight is not an option but a compulsion. Fad diet culture is thereby spreading like a wildfire, especially in U.S. As it is very less quantity food that one is allowed to eat, appetite suppressants are commonly recommended by the experts of these diets to help you keep a check on your food intake successfully.
Appetite suppressants work upon the satiety center of the brain, present in a control center, namely, hypothalamus. As the food gains entry into our stomach, Cholecystokinin-Pancreozymin is the enzyme which is secreted by the pancreas.
This enzyme is capable of determining when the food enters the gastrointestinal system. Some complicated signal is then sent by it towards the center, conveying that the food has been received by the body. The center that controls appetite acknowledges this information and replies back with another signal to the entire body that the stomach is now full.
Parasympathetic and sympathetic nerves then carry these signals further. Some neurotransmitters carry the signal between the endings of two nerves. These neurotransmitters are nor-adrenaline, dopamine and serotonin. Appetite suppressants that are taken work as they modify action of transmitters.
However, appetite suppressants may not be the right choice for everyone. In case, you are morbidly obese, i.e when you have a BMI of 30 and above, they can be of great help.
But when your target is to reduce 5-10 pounds, they surely are not for you. Also, people with heart disease and pregnant or breastfeeding women must also not consider appetite suppressants as an option for them.
Appetite suppressants must strictly be taken according to the given guidelines or according to the instructions by your physician. Any carelessness in the dosage or the diet that is recommended along with it may cause a dangerous health complication.
Make sure that you do not develop a dependency for these drugs and not use it for longer period than what has been advised.
Last but not least, do not fool yourself into thinking that appetite suppressants are the easy way to shed that stubborn fat.
It’s just a way to get started initially and adapt to good eating habits and exercising regularly. Rest of the battle is to be fought without them. So, brace yourself to get started soon.
